Özgen is an internationally acclaimed Turkish dancer, teacher, choreographer and director. He is known for his poise and charisma on stage. His taksims are heartfelt, his spins are effortless, his creativity transposes boundaries and his shimmies are explosive!
Özgen has a background in many dance genres including Turkish Oriental (belly dance) and folk. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge in these and many other styles in both traditional and contemporary formats. He is one of the most high profile dancers of the belly dance world today. Özgen travels the globe mesmeri…sing audiences with his captivating performances and providing students with valuable tuition in Turkish and wider Middle Eastern dance styles.
Belly Dance Amethyst is proud to offer Australian students and performers of belly dance another opportunity to learn from the great Turkish master himself through the four workshops he will be conducting. He will also be performing two spots at our Term 4 student spectacular.
WORKSHOPS
Thursday 7th of December 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Roman (Turkish Romany)
Turkish Roman is a very distinctive genre of Romany dance. Özgen will teach essential technique of this raw and earthy dance, the meanings behind gestures and how to work with various forms of the Turkish 9/8 rhythm.
Saturday 9th of December 12pm-2pm
Beautiful Hands, Arms & Turns
Add grace and elegance to your dance by studying some of Özgen’s signature turns, hand and arm placements in this workshop of pure technique.
Sunday 10th of December 10:30am – 12:30pm
Semai Rhythm
The Semai rhythm is an entrancing 10/8 rhythm that is used throughout the Middle East. Learn how to interpret this rhythm with technique which will be incorporated into a sublime choreography.
Sunday 10th of December 1:30pm – 3:30pm
Drum Solo
Özgen’s signature moves and pizzazz feature in this show stopping drum solo that will challenge and equip you with invaluable technique and stylisation.
All workshops will be conducted at Belly Dance Amethyst (28 Hamley Street, Adelaide)
